Chapter President Macon opened the monthly General Membership Meeting (GMM) @ 2 PM on 5 August 2008. There were 24 members present at our VVA 887 meeting room within the White House Hotel (Hensonville). Jimmy Hoggs was appointed Chaplain for the meeting. 2. The President followed the established ritual with a prayer by the Chaplain and Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag of the United States of America. 3. The roll call of Chapter officers was conducted. All officers were present other than BOD Ben Pennell, Papa Hardy and Chap. George Murphy (hospital), 4. Introduction of Guests. We welcomed one of our long time members who was working and residing in Korea, but now is retired again and living in Angeles City across from the new A. L. 123. Also welcomed was our newest member (yet to be voted upon) Larry Baker. Larry was a big winner of the 50/50 drawing and door prizes at our July social. Lastly Larry Miller from Tarlac joined us again, but still has not signed up. 5. Reading of Previous Minutes. The Secretary made a motion, which was seconded, to accept the July 1, 2008 as posted on the VVA bulletin board, web site and distributed via E-Mail, subject to correction. The motion passed. 6. Reading of Communications. a. A notice from RSL informing our members of Vietnam Vetera’s Day (Long Tan) on 18 August 2008. There will be an observance at Clark Cemetery @ 11 AM. Afterwards there will be a social at the Poderosa Hotel. Let’s get out that special day and support our Aussie Brothers-in-Arms. I know many o our infantry troops fought side by side with the Aussies. b. A letter has been placed in all the RSA mail customers mail at the DAV. Mr. Jim Tyler of the Subic RAO and Mr. Jim Boyd of the RAO in Angeles city apparently convinced the FPO mail room in Sea Front, Manila that there is only one mail room authorized in Angeles city and that is Mr.. Boyd’s RC/RCV mail room. The RSA customers can contact the RC mail room to have their mail changed. Mr. Boyd will honoe all fees paid to dateuntil their fees expire. Then the RC fee of P1200 a year. The last mail out to Subis vy the RSA mail section in the DAV will be August 29 , 2008. Any questions,, please see the DAV commander. 7. Treasure’s Report. Our Treasurer George Bishop gave an excellent financial report to our members. Our Chapter has the highest general fund since it’s beginning with over P123,000. Of course the Chapter made good profit from the 4th of July picnic. George also reported expenditures were under or within the established 2008-2009 budget. Amy member having a need to know, can coordinate with the Chapter Presideent and Treasurer in checking the Chapter’s financial records. 8. Any Outstanding Bills. The funds for the Porac Home support of P3000 and DAV/VVA Secretary of P1500 have been paid for August. 9. Member or family of a Member in Distress: Allen Coates is hospitalized in Manila and his wife is in Mercedes Hospital in Angeles city, both should be released soon; George Murphy in Mercedes Hospital; Leroy Gradney ill at home and Ski-2 Stryminski was reported to be very ill at home. 10. Committee Reports. a. Membership. - Membership Chairman VP Jones gave a report based on the end of July 2008 VVA National membership report. We currently stand at 130 VVA and 11 AVVA members. VP Jones made a motion, which was seconded to accept Larry Baker as annual member. With all the money he won at the July social, he should go Life. Members are asked to please check their membership card to ensure it is kept current. It is recommended member can pay $50 for three years , which saves them not only $10 but non harassment from the chapter for membership renewal. b. Community Activities: Chairman Jim Lary (1). Ch. Lary is out of country in Frozen Chosen so Steve Massie gave his report. Steve reported the city painted the wall and the VFW 2485 cemetery crew cut the grass, which is a large area, three times a month. The crew’s salary for one day and gasoline for the weed wackers are paid by anonymous donors. Any member who would like to become an anonymous donor, checked with Jim or Steve. (2). Ch. Lary prepared a after action report on the 4th of July picnic. The report will be attached to the copy of this GMM minutes posted on the VVA bulletin board. There were some good and bad points which will be taken into consideration next year. President Macon is working on Certificates of Appreciation for those establishments who donated to our door prizes. c. Veterans Affairs: VP Ray Jones briefed on CDRP re-bate which is now set for January 2009. E. Ralph chimed in to remind members to get their affairs in order again and advised them to consider a joint bank accounts if married; two funeral homes are set up to pre-arrange funeral arrangements to include paying for funeral cost by a payment plan. Members with girl friends should take them into consideration and tell them what they should expect upon the veteran’s death. Handouts to help getting affairs in order are available at the DAV office. d. Audit Committee. Auditor L. Don reported the financial records were audited for July 2008 and all were in excellent order. e. Sundry Sales. The Sundry Sales crew is putting together a shirt order in sizes M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL with our new Chapter name. President Macon asked for a price quote and if possible a prototype of the new shirt design. When the shirt order is put together the new chapter flag will be on the order. This brought up a question of “where is our Chapter colors?” There were a lot of confused looks and no one knew. The American Legion will be checked. Thank goodness, we are ordering a new one. f. Web Site. Mac Mac said there are still many hits from Vietnam veterans around the world. Mac volunteered to coordinate with VFW Post 11447 and Jose Alvarez rer our Subic January 2009 GMM. g. Social Committee. Chairman L. Don announced the VVA 887 Social will be at Honey Ko’s on August 21 @ 2 PM. Damian always puts on a good social for us, so see you there. 11. Old Business. a. The hanging of our chapter plaques and certificates on a bulletin board is still in work by President Macon. Jim Lary donated a sheet of plywood to be mounted behind the current board. Action – Pres. Macon. b. The Secretary stated a two sided all weather flag will be on the shirt order next month with our new Chapter name. c. The President was brought current on former Chapter VP2 Rooster Wetzel who was removed as VP2 ad a new VP2 elected at the January 2009 Subic GMM. d. The DAV/VVA Secretary Sharon received her P500 a month salary increase this month from our VVA 887. 12. New Business: a. A motion was made by Treasurer Bishop, which was seconded, for the Chapter to donate P1000 to the grass cutting project at the Porac Home. The motion passed. b. A motion and second was made to have an VVA 887 Anniversary Observance on 25 August 2008 @ 2 PM. It was ctered by Ray 1 Stop as e did last year. Anyone who wants to bring a pot luck dish, please check with Ray. Do not forget your lady is invited as well as all Vietnam Veterans in the area. Mac Mac is asked to put an announcement on the VVA 887 Web Page and contact Jose Alvarez in Subic so perhaps some of our Subic members may attend. The motion passed. c. Ray Sauvola reminded the Treasurer the meeting room rent for one year is due in oct 2008. Action – Treasurer Bishop 13. Good of the Chapter/Announcements: a. The next DAV Chapter 3 GMM will be 12 September 2008 @ 1030 A. M. in the VFW 2485 Essay Room. b. The A. L. Post 123 has their monthly general membership meetings on 24 August @ 10 AM in their new Post Home. c. The next VFW 2485 GMM is 8 September @ 10 AM. d. The next Beagle Organization meeting will be 16 September 2008 @ 10 A. M. at the Dog House. e. The 50/50 ticket drawing was won by President Macon for P2500 with same going to our chapter general fund. 14. There being no further business to come before the meeting, VP Jones closed the GMM in accordance with established Ritual. The next VVA Chapter 887 GMM will be 9 September 2008 @ 2 PM with the BOD meeting at 1 PM in our White House Hotel Chapter Meeting Room. Prepared by: E. The June 03 VVA General Membership meeting was held at Barrio Barretto, Subic Bay, and a great time was had by all. The group departed Angeles at 10:AM and proceeded to Subic via the new expressway. The road and scenery were outstanding, and we arrived in the barrio before 11:AM, and had lunch at the VFW. The general membership meeting was held at the Little Wheel where Subic members of VVA887 joined Angeles members in comradeship. Several applications for membership were accepted. The chapter then proceeded to enjoy "social" activities at a nearby activitiy center, where great food and entertainment were provided. The return trip to Angleles was pleasant, arriving before 6:PM. A special thanks to George, Shorty, Jose, and all the Subic members who make this outing a great success!
