community service

VVA 887 takes its community responsibilities seriously. Throughout the year, projects are proposed to the membership for possible sponsorship by our chapter. Each proposal is carefully evaluated from the standpoint of degree of need vs our ability to provide adequate support. Community support projects are fluid and ongoing, and as some activities find adequate funding from other sources, VVA887 locates other organizations to "fill the gap".
The Porac Children's Project
For years, Chapter 887 has provided monetary and physical support for the Porac Children's home. The Childrens home, operated by Catholic Nuns, was created to assist the poorest of the poor-- children living in poverty with an additional handicap-- that of mental challenges. Aside from providing financial support, VVA 887 provided maintenance to the facility and grounds. At Christmas 2006 The VVA hosted a Christmas Party with our members playing the part of Santa's helpers, distributing gifts and good will to all.
